In the works and Rutger

Lately I have been working a lot. In the last 3 weeks I have been on 5 different jobs. It all started out when Jais at Picturewise called me and asked if I wanted to be 2nd assistant on a Rutger Hauer shoot. I couldn't say no and ended up doing some focus pulling as well. Got a nice picture with the icon. He's very nice by the way. The project had an insanely talented Director to it called Sil Van der Woerd, and a great DOP from the UK, Keidrych Wasley. Who took this awesome shot.

Second job was 2 days later. A 2 day commercial with DOP Morten Rasmussen that I hadn't met before. He is a very experienced Photographer. Check him out on his website. As a fun coincidence we both studied in Prague. But 30 years apart.

Third job was just shooting a plate for an interesting short film that will be produced in Aarhus in August. Nice to meet the people there they made some stuff before. Check out Lonetower for more.

Fourth job was exciting for me. A 35mm shoot in Copenhagen for some guys who finished the Super16 course a few years ago. Very efficient shooting, and fun to work with a 35mm.

And I just finished working a new commercial project that I think will be quite big in Danish TV in the fall.

I saw two films lately. The Expandables and Machete. The short story. Expendables sucked bigtime and Machete rocked. I love Robert Rodriquez' way of making a gritty action film. With a low budget look at times but great actors and awesome action scenes it's well worth the watch.

Bet you didn't expect this!

Yes, writing again. Crazy.

So basically I'll try and keep it work/film related here. But for now a few quick updates since film school.

I graduated with cinematography as a specialty. You can see my final project here. I moved back to Denmark to be with Sigrid and start my career in the film business here. Sigrid and I got a beautiful son. His name is Eivind Örn and he is 10 months old now. Sigrid has one year left of school and then a half years internship.

Film businesswise it's been kind of slow. But I did get together with Marcus and Víði from Film school and we wrote this awesome short script and got it produced. So we spent almost a month in the Ukraine shooting our film Seven Years of Winter. We had one shooting day in Chernobyl. That was 2 days before the tsunami hit Japan and a huge nuclear disaster evolved there.

Here in Denmark I have been working as a camera assistant / focus puller. It has been a slow climb but now I am getting some work finally. Picturewise has helped me a lot and became coproducers on Seven Years of Winter. The work mostly involves commercials and shortfilms. I had the pleasure to work on a short film for the Festival week in Aarhus which starred Rutger Hauer. A great shoot and I can't wait to see the results as it was all green screen.

I am working on a few story ideas at the time and hope to be producing something by the end of the year.

Otherwise if you need it on the screen I'll gladly help out.

Jak se mas

Hey everybody.

I have to brag about being on a professional set. Some people from school were brought in to help on a music video for the UK rapper Ghetto. I was lucky to get the sparks position (setting up lights and such). The director, Luke Biggins, has done over a 100 videos for various artists such as Ludacris, All Saints and more. So this was a very nice opportunity and very fun through and through, despite the massive rain and finishing at 6 o´clock in the morning.

So I uploaded a school project. It wasn´t my own but I acted in it and was in charge of the lighting. It´s here: One person, One life, One Moment . Please leave a comment for it. I like the look of the footage. It was shot on super 16mm film over one day. We had about 15 locations in total so all in all a very successful shoot.

We are working hard on our fourth project although I have second thoughts about my story. This weekend we are shooting a mini project on our own. Since we can get the equipment for free in school then this is the chance. It is a short story that takes place in a toilet. I won´t tell more and just show you the result when it comes to it.

Me and Benni figured there can´t be much unemployment here in the Czech Republic. And here are 2 reasons for that.
1. All the sidewalks are made of tiny stones so it probably takes weeks to put down a sidewalk for a street and then they have to put down the slightly bigger stones for the street itself.
2. There are hardly any trash bins here but the city is relatively clean compared to Copenhagen for example. The metro stations have absolutely no trash bins so there must be a lot of people cleaning up in there.
3. How many army store does one city need. There is approximately an army store every 200 meters here.

I will surely find more solid reasons soon.

Anyway keep safe and have a nice day.

Já sæll

So I´ve been busy, or lazy, or something.

We have been busy in school and have shot 3 projects already. Yes they will be online soon. I am working on it. They will be put up on youtube before the week is out at www.vargur.com. So it´s been working out allright. I´ll try to put up all the films I worked on. Acting, Gaffing, Camera and all that can be done basically.

This week I´m editing project three. A satire inspired by the financial crisis and how it affects the average Icelandic student who is studying abroad.
The idea for the fourth project is a couple that has come to a point in their marriage where the verbal communication is long gone and instead they communicate through Post-It notes.

Otherwise I´ve been having a great time in Prague so far. Although there is little time to do things because of the school.

Anyways keep an eye out for the photos as I am a little bit more efficient posting photos than writing blogs. FlickR

jedno blog prozim

Hmm. Looks like I forgot the blog.
So the first days of school have been great. Good teachers and good fellow students. This saturday we shot our first assignment, a simple action with no dialogue that takes place around a bench. It took two hours to shoot and we start editing today. The end result is a one minute film and I think I have a good result.

Anglitcky

Since I do everything for my girlfriend, this blog will now be in English. She absolutely insisted on it!

So I´ve been here 6 days now. Still don't have internet. Vladka has ordered it for me though. They tried to call me this morning but their english was about as bad as my czech so I'm still waiting for an english speaking person to call me. A few moments later I got a call from Slovenia. That guy talked straight for 2 minutes and when I told him I´m not czech he just hung up.

I just delivered 6 films for developing and will probably post some pictures on thursday-friday.

I had a nice time with Sigrids friend Kali in Prague saturday night, which resulted in me hanging at home yesterday. I went out for breakfast/lunch and got some pretty weird food. It was a chicken steak baked in potato mash. I´ll probably never have it again.

Stuff will hopefully be more interesting when I start school.

Nejsem Czech! Anglitcky?
